The Tay Ferries sailed between Fife and Dundee and were nicknamed the "Fifies".

Although the whaling fleet is often associated with large sailing ships,each ship had up to eight of these smaller open boats. The sailors would set out in boats like this to hunt the whales returning to the larger ship after the hunt

HMS Dumbarton Castle (K388) built at the Caledon Shipyard between May and September 1943. A Castle-class corvette, later redesignated as Frigate F388 and saw service in the North Atlantic. It was placed into reserve after the second world war then scrapped in 1961
Displacement: 1060 tons ; Length 77metres ; Beam 11metres with a top speed of 16.5knots
